PROFESSIONAL SKILLS I HAVE LEARNT FROM THE PRACTICUM

 

My English teaching practicum at Nha Trang University (NTU) was a remarkable journey that left me with invaluable lessons and experiences. Throughout this period, I had the opportunity to practice teaching in a completely new environment, which opened my eyes to the significance of adaptability in the teaching profession.

 

Teaching at NTU was vastly different from my previous experiences. The students, their learning styles, and the classroom dynamics were unique, which presented both challenges and opportunities. This exposure forced me to adapt quickly. I realized that a teaching approach that worked well in one setting might not be as effective in another. It underscored the importance of tailoring my teaching methods to suit the specific needs of my students and the environment.

 

This adaptability became a core aspect of my teaching philosophy. I learned to be more responsive to my students' feedback, adjusting my lessons and strategies accordingly. This flexibility not only improved my teaching but also helped me connect with my students on a deeper level, as they felt their individual needs were being acknowledged and met. 

Another remarkable aspect of my practicum was the opportunity to collaborate with fellow teachers, supervisors, and support staff. The NTU community was incredibly welcoming, and the spirit of collaboration was palpable. This experience taught me that education is a collaborative endeavor.

 

Working with colleagues provided me with fresh perspectives and innovative teaching ideas. It allowed me to gain insights from experienced educators, enhancing my own pedagogical skills. Collaboration extended beyond the classroom; it was about designing interdisciplinary projects, addressing challenges collectively, and creating a holistic learning environment.

 

My practicum at NTU was a treasure trove of professional and soft skill development. Firstly, I honed my classroom management skills, recognizing the importance of maintaining an orderly and engaging learning environment. I learned to proactively address challenges, like disengaged students, by adjusting my teaching style in real-time.

 

Time management was another vital skill I developed. Efficiently allocating time for different aspects of a lesson while ensuring student engagement and interaction is a delicate balance. This skill proved crucial in creating effective, well-structured lessons.

One standout experience was the opportunity to attend a workshop on English language teaching issues. This workshop was enlightening and practical, providing insights into current trends and methodologies in English language education. It was a fantastic platform for professional development, where I could learn from experts and exchange ideas with peers.

 

In conclusion, my English teaching practicum at Nha Trang University was an enriching experience that expanded my horizons. Additionally, the workshop I attended enriched my understanding of English language teaching.
